OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the market rate of unemployment among health care workers in tertiary care hospitals during the pandemic. BACKGROUND: A public health dispute regarding the pandemic disease Covid-19 has wrapped up the entire world. From the beginning of the disease, severely ill patients with comorbidities were at high risk, but according to current estimation, around 2.3 percent and people more than 80 years of age are more prone to this disease.1 As statistics showed Pakistan lies a low and middle-income country throughout the world and out of 189 countries it lies on the 152nd rank with an index value of 0.560 on the Health development scale. Although the country faces many epidemic diseases and several healthcare problems for many years and that had an overwhelming effect on the population as morbidity, mortality and economic burden minimize due to the country effort for several decades.2 The study is conducted to evaluate the market rate of unemployment among health care workers in tertiary care hospitals during the period of Covid-19 and what measures need to be taken by the relevant authorities to remedy them. METHOD: A cross-sectional survey of sample size 212 is conducted on healthcare workers working in Ziauddin hospital (North Nazimabad campus) Karachi the research study is explanatory, whereas the method is quantitative. The initial research is done by gathering the literature linked to healthcare workers and be examined via validated questionnaire through email and various statistical tools used to analyze the complete data. RESULTS: A total of 212 participants were involved in this study. The mean age was found to be 28.75±5.8. Male participants were found to be 20 (9.4%) and female were 192 (90.6%). Most of the participants were graduate 128 (60.4%) followed by post-graduate 76 (35.8%). There were 128 (60.4%) participants who were single. Employment status was asked most of the respondents found in out of work and looking for work there were 16 respondents in Taking care of the home and family and 80 Unemployed and seeking a job with significant P-value of <0.001. CONCLUSION Study results showed there is a significant effect of Covid-19 pandemic disease on the employment status of workers of healthcare in tertiary care hospitals of Karachi, hence we accept the alternate hypothesis of the study and reject the null hypothesis.
